What Does No Longer A Registered User Mean On Ebay

  • #1

I put my 16 gig 3GS on ebay last night in anticipation of getting my iPhone 4 on Thursday. Started the auction at $99 and threw out a $499 buy it now (I included my incase slider, original box and equipment, and also one year of my squaretrade warranty). Within 30 minutes of it being up someone did "Buy it now". Needless to say I was pumped. I checked this persons profile out this morning and it says "No longer a registered user".

Now, obviously I wouldn't sent the phone to them until their payment is in my paypal account but is this some type of scam?? I sent them a message and if I don't hear back from them by the end of the day today I am thinking of just relisting it.

Has this happened to anybody else before?

sadly, ebay is full of such people.

they register, bid on your phone then disappear....

there are many theories behind it, one of which is removing all the buy-it-now items meaning there are less phones available, which can push up the price of the ones still going...so, if I remove all phones but mine, I stand a better chance of getting a decent price for mine.

or...just f**kwits with nothing better to do.

seems more like this belongs on an ebay forum.

I'd relist it starting at a higher price but don't do a buy it now. Also, I wouldn't accept any "winners" that didn't have any positive feedback and I'd put that in your listing. Just say your bid will be cancelled if you have negative or no feedback.

Didn't realize there was an ebay forum as I usually just come straight to the iPhone one haha. If this belongs there mods please move it.

I don't get how this would bump up the prices for other phones as I can just relist it. Oh well, I guess I'll put it up again. Thanks for the advice everyone

You can set the settings to only allow people who have feedback.

Why do Buy It Now when you can do one day listings for free at the moment?

You can't stop people with no feedback from bidding. You can say you won't accept the bids but you can't stop them. eBay doesn't allow that. Also buyer no longer a registered user means they have probably banned for scamming someone.

Or they closed their account.

I'm not usually a fan of Buy It Now sales, as you can get less than in an auction. But right now with iPhones, BIN is better. You should get paid right away - and if not can relist it immediately. In a regular auction, if you don't get paid, you have to wait four days to file against a non-paying buyer, and then another four days before you can relist.
